5Skeptic no longer, and glad of it
By Christopher H. Hodgkin
I have had trouble finding a good way of making a single cup of good coffee. I looked at the Keurig machines, but was put off by the high prices. Then I found this little product. I was initially skeptical because this product had nothing but 5 star reviews from reviewers with few other reviews. In the past, that's often meant a product where the makers or sellers were posting fake reviews. However, comparing this to the price of Keurig machines, I decided to give it a try. And my skepticism has vanished. This little press does just what it's supposed to do -- makes an excellent cup of coffee from Keurig K-cups or pods. (I haven't tried it with ground coffee yet, but see no reason why it wouldn't do just as well as with the pods and K-cups.)It pays to read the manual and follow the instructions! I tried it initially with pods (which is what I had on hand), and had several failures, with the pods breaking open and dumping grounds into my cup. But then I re-read the instructions carefully, and realized that I was doing two things wrong. First, I was installing the pods in their holder incorrectly. Second, I was pressing down way too fast on the plunger. Once I followed the instructions on how to insert the pods (which is much easier than cramming them in as I had been doing), and slowed my press rate to the recommended 20 to 40 seconds, I was getting perfect cups of coffee. Whereas my drip pod maker had needed two pods and was still only making fair coffee, from one pod this made a much better cup. Score 1.I then got some K-cups at the store, and tried those. Again following the instructions carefully -- a slow press to get the grounds wet, waiting 10 seconds for the coffee in the K-cup to be fully infused, then a slow press all the way down -- the machine gave a rich, excellent cup of coffee. If you want to pay hundreds of dollars for the convenience of having the machine do all the work for you, go ahead. But if you're willing to take just a few minutes (2 minutes for the water in the microwave, using this time to insert the pod or K-cup, and less than a minute to press the water through), you can save a ton of money and get an excellent cup of coffee. The only downside is that it does take average strength to press the plunger down. My mother-in-law, who has very week hands and wrists, probably couldn't handle it. But unless you are exceptionally weak in the hands and wrists, it's no problem. (I have found that rotating the plunger slowly as I press makes it go a bit easier, but it's still fine when I don't do that.) And using a bit of muscle power is good for you, isn't it?The construction of the press seems plenty sturdy. The parts aren't flimsy plastic, but have a good heft and feel to them. All in all, it's a product that does exactly what it's supposed to do for a very reasonable price. What more could you ask?

5LOVE IT!!
By Cheryl
Love this press! I bought it for travel and absolutely love it. Just one point for technique- once you start to press, DO NOT release pressure. If you do, it draws coffee grounds into the water at the top and then clogs the water jets at the bottom when you start to press again.

5the perfect cup
By tillie
I went to a coffee convention in Las Vegas. I was just along for the ride as a guest. However, I have been on the hunt for a perfect cup of coffee for a long time. First I will tell you what I want in my morning cup. I want a latte without alot of drama. I don't want to go through a complicated process with alot of noise or big expense. I have found my solution. This coffee press allowed me to put my own coffee (PEETS) in the adaptor, pour the water in and press. NO noise no whirring steaming hiss. I microwave milk and pour the "espresso" in. I use a very small amount of water and get a smooth delicious concentration of coffee. If you want a regular cup of coffee just add more water. I have just placed my order with Cafejo. I put a review here because I am an Amazon shopper and think it should be sold here. Order with confidence in a good product.
